What a great time we had together Sunday as we committed and commissioned Joshi Phillips to God as CBtB’s youth pastor. The verses, words and pictures Joshi received were a great gift to him. There these “Revelations” were both encouragement for what lies ahead and the resources God has placed at his disposal so that Joshi can walk in what God has called him too.

Joshi’s Dad, Sunny, also preached it was a fabulous message and one I’d recommend you listen to.

Sunny said a number of things but I thought I’d highlight one.

God’s called us to bear fruit (John 15) but we also are his “first fruits.” The first fruit of God is displayed in out character. How much we are display Jesus’ character in our lives is displayed in numerous ways.

  • Character is displayed when I am disappointed, when I am not “bearing fruit” or when I am disappointed with myself or others.
  • My Character is shown in the things I ask for. Praying in the “name of Jesus” is something we’re taught, that Jesus said to ask for anything “in My name”. Sunny said we can only ask “in his name” when we know the Character of Jesus. My thought was that if we have “doubt” whether we are asking for something that is compatible with Jesus’ character then our doubt provides an invitation to “Seek” Him and know Him better. So how’s your doubt going at the moment?
  • Finally, using the illustration of Cain and Abel, Sunny encouraged us that if we “get it wrong” (Like Cain did) then God will have lots to say to us. So if God isn’t saying a lot to you then perhaps its because your in the right place or your living His will (Check out Hebrews 12 if things aren’t going well right now and see if God’s saying something).

Overall it was a wonderful day for our church.
